Lizi's Duffle Bag

Since I haven't been working lately, I haven't had money. Duh!! Anyway, my granddaughter's (Lizi) birthday was last week and I wasn't able to go buy her something. I talked with her mom and she suggested I make her a bag. We went through my patterns and decided on McCall's 3136, View H, a small duffle bag (pattern is no longer in print). I had some dark pink gaberdine and some pink with skulls cotton blend that I had bought previously with the intention of making a tote bag for a teenager. Lizi is 7 years old, and her mother thought she would like it.

Since they visit me a lot, I couldn't keep it hidden while I was making it. Lizi wanted to know what I was making and I had to tell her. She was SO EXCITED!!! But then she said, "Those skulls creep me out!" LOL! I told her they would be in the inside and she was okay with that.

She wanted to help with the sewing, but this was a little more complicated than I thought it would be, so I let her help me with pinning.

She later decided that she liked the skulls and said she wanted some on the outside of the bag. I usually do monogramming and applique after I cut the pieces out and before I start sewing them together. Okay, I had to put my thinking cap on. I figured I could cut out one skull for each end and fuse them on. Then I thought I would try to monogram her name on the bag. Thank goodness her name is only four letters and I could use my smallest machine embroidery hoop!

This is the finished bag.

Lizi hasn't seen it yet, but she will this afternoon. I really hope she likes it!!

A Little Something to Get This Started!

Wow! It has been a really hectic week already! I hope you all had a fantastic Independence Day, and I want to thank all of our service men and women for keeping our wonderful country free.

I will start out giving you some things you can do with items that are probably already in your bathroom cabinet.

Alka-Seltzer©

Clean your flower vases – Fill the vase with water and drop in two tablets. Wait 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Sparkling clean!

Clean stuck-on food – Fill cookware with water and drop in six tablets. Let soak at least an hour. Food should just wipe off.

Aspirin

Put two tablets for each quart of water in the vase. Your flowers will stay fresh for several days.

Deodorant

Just swipe your deodorant over an insect bite to counteract the pain and itching almost immediately.

Rub it over your feet to prevent those new shoes from giving you a blister. Bonus – it will reduce perspiration, so less foot odor!

Hairspray

Spray onto a tissue and swipe over pet hair on your furniture. The fur will stick to the tissue.

If you have an ink stain on your clothing, spray some hair spray (with acetone) on it, wait ten minutes, then rinse with cold water.

I hope you find these tips and tricks useful. I am going to try to post something at least three times a week, and will include uses for herbs, vegetables, and fruits for natural healing and prevention.

Let me know if there is anything you would like to know more about!

New Purpose

I am going to be changing the focus of this blog. Since it appears that I am unable to work outside the home any longer due to health issues, I feel that God is leading me to do this. I will still be posting random thoughts and essays from time to time, but the main focus will be on using God’s gifts of herbs and other plants for healing, cleaning, and prevention. I hope to post something at least 3 times a week, whether it is how to use God’s gifts or just a positive message. I might even post a recipe or two!

I am also working on a natural mosquito repellant. It is still in the testing phase, but I will let you know when it will be available for purchase. I promise it smells a whole lot better than the products full of chemicals that are available in the stores, plus it is ALL NATURAL!

I welcome your comments and suggestions, but please be aware that any bad language or someone that just wants to be a troll will be deleted.

God bless all of you!
